Perched naked on the scale this morning...

... A thought occurred to me... I DO actually have something helpful to say...

I weigh myself every morning... And I honestly think it's an essential part of weight maintenance. In my nearly two years of Weight Watchers, and weighing every day, there are a few things I've learned. In reality, it's all just common sense, but... well... I've never been all that sensible when it comes to food or weight loss, so it took me some time to figure this stuff out...

1. I step on the scale every single day, no matter what... ESPECIALLY when I think I might not like the number I'm going to see. There's no way for ten pounds to sneak up on me because I'm watching for it!

2. I don't freak out if the scale jumps up a lot overnight. It's almost impossible to really gain three pounds in a day... If I ate a lot over the weekend, I lay off the junk and drink lots of water. The number on the scale always drops back down in a few days.

3. Likewise, I don't get attached when I see an unusually low number one day. A big overnight loss pretty much never sticks.

4. I don't weigh more than once a day. I've heard of people stepping on the scale every time they go into the bathroom. Seriously guys, I know we're all obsessive, but we've got to draw the line somewhere!

My weight fluctuates from 145-150 during any given week. If it jumps up over 150 I know it's time to lay off the caramel corn. Of course, when I saw 145 last week, I went straight to the kitchen and made a new batch.

Okay, so will you post this caramel corn recipe? You keep talking about it--PLEASE share!!!

I'm not an every day weigher but I'm getting up to about every other day... It's teaching me a lot about my body.

I had to throw my scale out because I was allowing it way too much impact on my day. Now I only weigh weekly at WW. I can see the value of daily weighing if you are wise enough to follow these guidelines. I'm not there yet!

That is the exact same relationship I have with my scale.

PLEAZZZZZZZZE post that caramel corn recipe. I have been craving it and I use to be able to buy a small box at the mall from a popcorn place but it went out of business YEARS ago!!
I definately jump on the scale each am right after I pee!! It has taken me a LONG time to realize you don't "put on" 3 pounds over night but just seeing the weight change does still cause me to panic. I guess some habits never die huh?

I weigh daily as well. I just feel more in control that way.

This is good stuff. I think we all know this, but having it in print makes it more believable.

Me too. Since I started losing weight I have to "check in" every day. It just helps me to know where my day is headed as far as my meals.

I'm really not sure what is the best idea...

Right now I weigh myself once a week and having it so infrequent makes is seem really scary! On the other hand, I'm worried I'll start getting too crazy if I weighed myself once a day! It would make the number less intimidating though - if I was faced with it every day!

I'm also a daily weigher. It really helps me stay on track. And it does fluctuate a lot. Often for no reason that I can understand. But I understand that, so it doesn't bother me (too much).

Hi, i came across your site and agree with your way of thinking. Alot of people fall into the fad diet craze, over the years myself included. Now i maintain my weight through proper diet and exercise. Its true. When you get down around your target weight you do feel better about yourself. My self esteem is up and i have a better outlook on things. Dave
